In my late 20′s friends introduced me to the wonderful realm of science fiction and fantasy through video games. In 1999 I wrote my first fan-fiction piece, Helping Hands, based on the characters from Final Fantasy VII. Later that year I created the website, The Mintfield, and posted both my original fiction and fan-fiction to the web.
Enthralled with writing spin-off stories based on the worlds and characters from these games, I also began submitting my writing to online publishing sites specializing in fan-fiction such as RPGamer [their fanfiction section is no more], Fanfiction.net, RPGfan, and IcyBrian. Some would say I had an inside track to getting my work posted. In fact, some of my readers claim I was a bit of a celebrity back in the day. While that was [and is] a great boost to my sometimes floundering confidence, I feel quite certain there are many writers more talented than I in the realm of fan-fiction.
What stemmed from this game obsession was a clique of friends I fondly titled the Mintfield Flowers, though they were all named after herbs more than flowers…. Why were they called thus? Because all were introduced to me through my fan-fiction, my pseudonym [mintbaby] inspiring the name of the original site Mintfield as well as the theme behind their nicknames.
Now it’s a hope to draw us all together again [as well as new friends collected on the way] and get this new [and hopefully improved] game site up and running. Articles will encompass pretty much anything of a geeky nature.
